Description
PHOTO: 38,608.00243 -- A Blue Vetch (Vicia species); pea family (Fabaceae, used to be called Leguminosae), a legume. A dainty and beautiful cluster of bluish purple flowers growing in a raceme. Each individual flower on this plant is about 3/4 inches long. Vetch plants have delicate compound leaves and grow winding their way up beside other plants and clinging to them with the vetch’s coiled tendrils. There are over 70 species of vetch in North America. I found this one near Kaslo, British Columbia, Canada, North America.
