A Douglas Fir (Pseudtsuga menziesii) pinecone with yellow sap, hanging on a small tree branch with green needles. This cone has a white background.
Douglas Fir is a conifer tree with wood highly prized for construction. It grows 75-120’ tall when mature, with a straight trunk that is up to 60” diameter. Its seed cones are narrowly egg-shaped, 2-4” long, hanging, greenish when young, reddish-brown when mature. The cones' scales are stiff, exceeded by prominent, 3-toothed bracts.
The trees occur throughout much of the mountain and wetter areas of western North America, from British Columbia, Canada, down to Arizona and New Mexico in the United States. -- PHOTO: 38,633.01721
